Words Through Time
Taking a look through history to discover motivations, inspirations, and wordly ways of skilled writers. Beginning with Plato's The Republic, we consider the world he lived in and the challenges a philosophical author faced. As time advances, we see how Christian elements begin to find their way into early works such as Beowulf. We compare each new writing to the last to see how the author's interpretation of society has changed and what is now valued higher than the previous time period.
The works of George MacDonald, Oliver Goldsmith, Harriet Beecher Stowe, and Alan Paton will be studied in this course. Short stories by Flannery O'Connor among others will be included. Poetry, précis assignments, timed essays, and a research paper included. I have added links to all four sections of this year's course to the left, you can print them out separately. I include them all in a 3 ring binder with dividers.
