Hall Home Custom Build
Thank you for checking out our special project! Having lived in 8 states (over 14 homes) in 32 years, we are excited to set roots. At this point, we only have one grandchild- this build puts us within 30 minutes of taking on the treasured role of Grumps and Grammy. Because we have lived in so many homes from the West Coast to the East Coast- we're very specific in the materials and design of the home. We also understand the need for flexibility and are open to suggestions through this process. Our faith through all our moves has grown greatly and God has proven all things are possible with Him at the helm!
We collaborated with Frank Betz homes to design a modified version of their new plan-Coventry Walk. We added 3' in width and leaned more towards a Craftsman exterior, eliminated a bedroom upstairs to create an open loft space and made a few minor changes with door sizings and extending the staircase out to include a window seat.
If you are interested in supplying a bid for this project- please fill out the form linked below. Not necessarily looking for the lowest bid. but the fairest based on skill and availability. Each contractor will need to have a current license and insurance. On previous projects, I have found referrals for trades are the best way to build sound construction.
As I complete the materials list, I will include a link here to access all aspects of products used. Building a house that is sound, efficient, and will last is our goal. 2x6 exterior construction, engineered wood floors/stair treads, upgraded windows for longevity- but minimal on crown molding- simple 5" base molding with squared off Craftsman trim on windows and doors. Still uncertain on a few options: closing in a portion of the back porch/screened, crawl space v. slab, drainage options to divert water away from foundation, etc. A safe and sound build for all contractors is a priority. I can be at the site daily to help keep it tidy and answer any questions or help in any way.
A bespoke design team based in Idaho Falls (House of Home) will be opening a second office in South Carolina. They are pulling together the exterior finishes to blend in with the beautiful wooded background and create a warm and inviting design. This project is definitely a collaboration of creative talents and skilled craftsmen.
Below are a list of considerations for the build:
Crawlspace innovations (exploring new techniques to promote lower humidity in the home.)
Catch-basin drainage system- downspouts off gutters draining directly into this system.
Exploring a craftsman style staircase- balusters and newels
Stone or brick for watertable and chimney
Zip system or Tyvek wrap- furring strips/rainscreens?
Would love input on favorite modifications to make an effort towards green building: energy use, water use, indoor air quality, material selection and minimal effects on the building site.
We just listed our home in Houston- once it closes, the build will begin immediately with site prep after approval from the Architectural Review Board. Your interest and time is greatly appreciated. We are excited to support local businesses and trades. I will be chronicling the build on social media under the username "Grammy Builds"- I hope this project will provide opportunities to highlight exceptional craftsmanship and throw more projects to worthy contractors.
Excited to build a loving home!
